2020- Going to College with the Knowledge

Image result for Tamaki college

Kia ora this is a Video showcasing of how I travelled through time and faced many challenges in my life at school, But then it gets better when people encouraged me to believe that anything is possible even going to camp and being afraid of heights was a challenge that I faced, but I never stopped  giving up in the end it all turned out to be successful. I didn't need a emergency phone or a fire extinguisher all I needed was faith and motivation. So this short video clip explains how I'm going from level 50 to 100 In college my goal is to join as many sports is possible getting involved in outside or indoor activities is great. My proudest achievement from 2012-2019 is be able to have the confidence and to be able to collaborate with others during learning time. In the school holidays I will be blogging and commenting on peoples blogs I will work hard and stay committed during the festive season and build my way till the time starts for me to attend (Tamaki College).

Activity 2: Impossible Burger

Today Me and Ellenora created a DLO resulting the Nutrition between a Meat product burger and a Vegetarian burger. We found out that there is 113 oz calories packed into a vegetarian style burger and 290 calories inside a normal meat burger. The Saturated burger that we found out for each of the 2 burgers was that in the vegetarian burger there is 14g of fat saturated into a vegetarian burger and inside a meat burger their is 70% of fat saturated into meat burger. And last but not least their is 25% of sodium in a vegetarian burger and 580 mg of sodium in a normal meat burger.

Day 5: Activity 1,Science, Technology, Invention

5 rules when sharing personal online information

  1. When giving personal information about you or your family, Make sure that whoever you are talking or (Chatting to) You've atleast video chatted or know the person very well.
2. Chatting to a person that you haven't even met before or is trying to hide away their identity from you can cause a major problem and could affect the people around you, Including your family).

3. (Sharing your address or Pictures) Do you have a friend or family member who you know has been sharing images and addresses to someone they haven't even met before. The best thing to do is, (If your in that kind of situation then tell someone you know or atleast image search or make a plan to meet up, (If they live in your area or suburb).

4. (Copyrighting or Theft) You probably already know about this but lets just go through the simple steps to why copyrighting is illegal. Have you ever experienced online theft in your lifetime. If you haven't lets do a recap about how copyrights.NZ helps to protect online information. If this happens to you then go onto Net Safe to keep your account safe or block your account if you have instagram, Snapchat, Facebook or Twitter.

5. Last but not least (Scams) Someone is asking you to send money to them around 3 to $6,000 thats half of your life savings gone. It is not a good Idea to mail money to them if you don't know them that well. They might be trying to fake you by saying eg: ( I need $money for my family). If I were you I would disagree and block them on social media or online gaming). That way it would be safer.

This is a short explanation of Cybersmart and online information.

Activity 3: The Columbian Exchange, Summer Learning Journey

A Person who has had a positive impact on my life is my aunty... Because ever since I was little I always used to travel and experience what life is like in the pacific. From the moment I left New Zealand to Rarotonga I didn't really know what flying in a plane was like so it made me very concerned that something was going to happen after watching all sorts of different movies that made
a negative impact on my travels. But once I got on my aunty told me that being on a plane can be scary when its your first time, but then after an hour of calming down I started getting used to it. Now these days  I travel and explore New Zealand, Pacific Islands and parts of the world. She has gotten me involved in a lot of sports in which she has being paddling for along time. I started paddling at the age of 4 when I turned 5 I paddled for Tamaki then going on through the ages I paddled for Manukau/ aka Manu Midgets.  I competed against so may teams and even got to go to the worlds in Tahiti which excited me very much. This all happened because of my aunty, going to work everyday, attending programmes that have to do with schools and careers. I think that she is a great role model in our family because she is always kicking off an event for our family.

This Task is my version of a person who has a positive impact on me, This tells a short text of how my Aunty... Debs made my life a dream.

Activity 2: What... Mostly Proud of, Summer Learning Journey

For Activity 2 our task was to interview 3 friends or classmates about what they are mostly proud of. In this task I interviewed Mele, Marieta and Myself. I am very proud of my sister for finishing college and going onto university because she has worked so hard and has stayed committed to all her subjects including her favorite, Maths.

Mele- " A big achievement that I am very proud of this year is being able to lead my school as Head Girl for 2019, because not only was I able to welcome visitors, present many times and take on responsibilities, but I believe that being chosen as Head Girl has given me the opportunity to embrace our school VALUES very well and represent our school confidently. Next year will become a new chapter and being that I have experienced what a leader is like, I am fulfilled and ready to become a ambassador at my new college.

Marieta:" Me and my family are proud for myself. The reason why is because two weeks ago I got baptised. It was scary but I got through it. The next day out of 50 people I was chosen to read the word for the preacher. I was really shy but I am so happy that I accomplished this goal that has been waiting for me for about 3 years. "

Day 3: Activity 1- Environmental and Exploration

This Week we created a DLO that promotes The Water Project taking place in the sub saharan, Africa. We learnt that many families and children are not able to access clean water since it is contaminated with all sorts of bacteria and animal production. Our Task was to work as a group and define the achievement and the goal that the water project has in mind. What I found interesting about the water project going on in Africa, Is that some girls dropped out of school because of the problem. The People That I worked well with in my group were, Taheesha, Sakina and Miiana. We all worked collaboratively on this project. Before we started creating this DLO we wrote down notes in just partners of 2 before getting together and working in a group. I really enjoyed working on this project because it was based on helping to provide clean fresh water to people who don't have access to clean water or even taking a long journey accross droughts and hot deserts.

Activity 3: The Greatest Of All Time

Pro's  l Cons
Image result for garry kasparovPro: Being the best chess player in the world can
can earn you a lot of money.

Con's: Plagiarism starts happening, this is caused by someone
who copyrights or steals information(Personal Information) such as
having your identity of being the best chess player in the world.

Pro: Your self portrait in then published in the papers and you could
be featured in T.V shows or even invited to Gaming Lounges for
challenges.

Con's:  You can easily become unpopular, How?, Someone easily could
tell something untrue about you that could affect a lot of people.

Pro: You could inspire others to try out chess for themselves, They could be
a starter or a returning player.

Con's: People can find out about your Personal Life, (This is just like stealing ґ
Personal information). This can be dangerous as terrible things can start happening.

Short Explanation of the Task
This is Activity 3 of Day 2- I created a Pro's and Con's T chart which I am acting as worlds best chess player Garry Kasparov, In this Task I listed 3 of each pro's and cons the advantages/Disadvantages.

Activity 2: Equal pay for Equal work

Is It fair that Men get more paid then women, well I think this is just not right. Fiao'o Fa'amausili shares her story with the people of NZ, Speaking up for the rights on the behalf of her rugby team (Black Ferns), Why isn't the black ferns being paid a less amount of money, They play and represent the same sport and country. I just find this incredibly unfair because between the 2 comparisons is the government choosing between the genders, I think that the black ferns should get the same amount of payment as the All Blacks. I do not believe that women should not get payed less money because if the (BF) and The (AB) got payed the same amount of money it will be a Equal pay + Equal work.

Day 2: Activity 1- Speeding Bullet

Task: Come up with 4 new Similies that you could create

Example: Here my 4 Examples about Fast speeding bullet running athlete: Shelly-Ann-Fraser-Pryce
She is as fast as... (A timer counting down how many minutes and hours through the night and day.)
She is as tall as... (Mustang(Horse)
She is as Gorgeous looking... (The Sun sets on the Caribbean Horizon)
She is as Powerful... (Like a Jaguar running across the sahara deserts)

Today I completed Day 2's activity 1, This activity was based on the fastest women in the world (Shelly-Ann-Fraser-Pryce) A Fact that I found out about her is that when she was in High School she competed well in the Jamaican school Athletics + She went on to winning the Jamaican School running Championships. I describe her as a Powerful, Proud and Motivated women because she has come so far from winning a School Championship, I find that so incredible she has taken the time and effort to take the oppitunity to follow her dreams and become the fastest women in the world.

This Activity is Based on 4 similes to describe her, I chose to go simple and use some ideas from the site.

Activity 3: BFG, Big Friendly Giant

Today I worked on Activity 3 which was based on the Mythical story of the BFG(Big Friendly Giant) Written by Roald Dhal. The first step of this activity was to Watch the video published at the bottom of the teaser week activity page. Then the task was to write at least 10 descriptive words about the (BFG), The Most Exciting part of this task that I was intrigued by was that I created a picture of the (Big Friendly Giant). I Discovered some of the Key and most Descriptive words to describe the big friendly giant, Down Below are some of the words that I thought would suit the (BFG).

Friendly, Funny, Understanding, Adventurous, Imaginative, Hopeful, Cheerful, Honest, Nice, Caring

Activity 1: New Zealand Royal

(About Ella Yelich O'connor), Today is the first day of the Manaiakalani Summer Learning Journey Teaser week, The first task of today was to create a Profile Infographic about Lorde. 1 fact that I found interesting and that is included in this Profile page, That she accomplished 19 awards from International to National. I found a lot of the information from videos that I have watched + Sites that explains a lot of facts about Lorde and how she took her passion to a whole new level. I personally enjoyed this activity because its based on Arts and Entertainment.

Market Day Evaluation

On Friday Afternoon, LS2 sold  a range of 99 rainbow crayons, that were molded into different types of shapes. Instead of  just melting a single color of crayons. We melted color crayons that would go well together. We used the digital color wheel to help us find the colors opposite each other. For example, Green and Red. Some of our coloured crayons were melted in several colors from black, pink and white. We made different types of crayons, ones that will attract boys and  girls. When it came to market day our whole store sold out leaving us with total cost of $88.00 dollars. So was our Ideas viable, Yes, Because we caught customers attentions which helped us make a profit + We made our price cheap of just $1.00 dollar. Our Net profit was $96.00, the costs were $8.00 minice 96-8 gives us 88. We made an impressive amount of money + instead of just paying cash we exchanged tokens to buy the item.

Market day- Instagram post, Rainbow crayons

Today is our market day, LS2 has officially accomplished and developed a whole new design career, using old and broken crayons to give them a makeover. we have designed rainbow crayons in our classroom. We have created what looks like a Instagram post showcasing our rainbow crayons. We´ve also added in a caption to give our description of our rainbow crayons.

Atheletics day 2019

This term Panmure bridge held Athletics day on the 22nd of Friday, There were a lot of activities to get active in and every classroom in the school wore color group clothing, Red, Blue, Yellow or green/Black. I competed in the athletics day with group red LS2. Before Athletics day began each color group picked a leader for there group. I was the team leader of the red team. Each activity that we competed in we all encouraged each other and motivated each other.  It was amazing to see how everyone contributed to the sport and got involved in the activities.

William Shakespare- Romeo and Juliet

For the past 2 weeks we have been focusing on the story Romeo and Juliet which is a famous tale written by William Shakespeare, who is a famous poet that was born in stratford- upon- avan, England. This week me, Ellenora, Eyaka and Angelene created a animation to retell the story. Throughout the week we have been communicating with each other and sharing the ideas, which we then process into making our animation. We also created a script to go along with the animation. We each took turns on each of the script. After our animation was fully accomplished we presented it to the class.

Reading Presentations

For the past 2 weeks me and Chavda have been researching about the Great Plague that invaded London and England. This Topic was very interesting because it involved a lot of action + facts. 1 fact I found interesting was that 100,000 people died during 1665-1666 caused by the sickness of the plague. Once researched, we created a DLO about the great plague and how it all started. We created a Timeline and a summary to explain the story behind this allful tragedy. We also designed our own picture to describe the scene of what happened back in the day. Once we completed our DLO we presented it in front of the class. We shared  a lot of information and gave a clear description about our topic. I liked working on this topic because it was all about history.

(Transformation) - Mathematics

This Week for Maths we are learning to understand the meaning of Transformation and how it is done. (Transformation- Is to Change or Rearrange something or someone). To show our learning we got creative and designed our DLO using the shape tool. I decided to make a plant using a circle, Cylinder and Round Diagonal corner rectangle. Our challenge was to create and show the 4 different types of transformation- Reflection, Rotation, Enlargement, Translation. For the Reflection part of the challenge I duplicated the design and turned it to make it face the opposite way. (Reflection- Mirror image). The Next part of the challenge was to duplicate the design again but ax 4th's. Then I rotated the design from 90 degrees, 180 degrees, 27.0 degrees, 0 degrees. (Rotation- To turn). The next step was to enlarge the design from smallest- Biggest. The Last step was to Translate the design, (Translate- Moving, Sliding).

Food Print: Talking with Micheal

Yesterday LS2 and LS1 got a visit from Micheal a business owner who has been working in her own official office where her and her team develop and research about food waste and how they could change food waste into products that don´t get thrown away every day. She is also a social worker who helps those in need + she has developed her own app called Food Print. Similar to the Uber Eats app but instead Food Print is made differently- The app does not require fast foods instead it provides cooked dishes and cafe delights, such as, Cakes, Ice Cream, Fudges and much more. I was so intrigued by fact that 1/3 of the food that is produced like (Bread) are wasted every year. A fact that Micheal mentioned during her speech was that 1.3 billion tonnes of wasted food ends up in the landfill = Decay, Produced which turns into methane gas. Methane gas changes the weather this causes climate change. During her time working as a small business owner Micheal is trying her best to help reduce the number of waste. Did you that 20 million loaves of bread is wasted every year in New Zealand. She also talked about Food Print being an enterprise, (Open Market).
It was a great oppitunity to hear her story and she learnt the enterprise and economics.
Big thanks to Micheal from Food Print for coming to share your story with LS2 and LS1.

T4W1- Explanation, Empathy, Tolerence, Qualities, Kindness

Is Mocking someone else's culture alright, no, people have their own belief and Religion and respecting and showing values of their culture is the best choice to make. How would you feel if someone barged into your house or temple of worship and made a nasty comment about your culture, Showing Empathy to them is like putting yourself into their shoes. Empathy is a strong word and means to put someone else first who is living a life where they are not able to show themselves or to share their culture.

Do you know someone who is experiencing Cultural effects- For example, A new person comes to a school which has only light coloured skin students. During Morning Tea a group of students from year 6 to 7 approach the new person and start humiliating them by making comments about who they are. Meanwhile, another student comes into the problem and attempts to use empathy by using a proper explanation to convince the bullies that mocking a culture is never ok. Think about it, the life effect on that 1 person. That single pupil would ́t ever want to go to school because of the less welcoming that they were given.

So why is Empathy important? Empathy can help cultural communities live in safer places. Mainly places where foul language is not used, less Mocking more empathy. Because being in a country where they only allow 1 colour can change everything but standing up for what is right can make a huge difference to many peoples lives.

This Week In Writing we are continuing to write explanations, This time our topic is based on values- The 4 values that we are focusing on is, Kindness, Empathy, Tolerance, Qualities. Our first task was to plan for 5 minutes then write for 40 minutes. While I was writing my explanation I kept on looking at my notes to ensure that I included, formal language, Punctuation- To make sure I marked the punctuation in the write places, Rhetorical question, Technical vocab + powerful words and last by not least TIIC which is the main part of this explanation. This Explanation that I wrote was based on Empathy and Cultural belief and why we should respect others opinion and thoughts- Belief.  After 40 minutes of writing I did 5 minutes of drafting, I fixed up a few mistakes but during the proof reading stage I realized that what I´ve wrote included all main points that I needed. Next time I need to work on not including to much information about the topic.

    4. Whanau would also make kai-moana.
    5. Maori started exchanging years ago.
In Inquiry our focus is on early Maori enterprise, Our task was to create 5 sentences and summarize them. In small groups, Taheesha, Miiana, Sakina and I summed up 3 sentences using our notes + 2 website links. Once the 5 sentences were completed our next task was to use syllables in our 5 sentences.

International News- Mapping

This week Haylee and I  started our current events but this time we are mapping the events that take place world wide or international news. We used the same 12 current event sequences to help us make decisions about the international stories that are published world wide. One of the stories that we have chosen to include in our world map was about a- Teen mum who murdered her 4 month old baby, The court is making hard decisions whether they should charge her or she shouldn´t go into custody for the  wrong reasons. The Exemplars that we used as a showcase of information were Kiwi kids news, Radio New Zealand and New Zealand herald. This Map is an Example of what our task was, We plotted the everyday continuing stories that happen internationally, In these 12 countries and cities.

Provocation and Opinion

A provocation is an action or speech that attracts strong feelings about the topic. This Weeks topic is about Energy drinks and this topic is related to current events. As was recently showcased on social media countdown has announced that energy drinks will no longer be sold due to the under aging of younger people buying Energy products. I created a DLO to show the 2 sides of the story and give points of view, I agree that countdown should stop selling Energy drinks because it contains more than 5g of sugar.

Exploring our national current events

News Editors make decisions everyday about which current event stories they will run. We explored the different types of current events that are happening in NZ. I worked with Haylee, Fui and Sakina.
The current that we chose were stated at each point of New Zealand from Christchurch to Auckland.
Their were 12 main literary awareness's that we looked for in the events that we read on National News. To explain were the events to place we plotted them on google maps.

Explanation: Should New Zealand ban plastic straws?

You may not agree with me, but I believe that plastic straws should be banned from all facilities including supermarkets. Plastic straws has been an issue for years and I totally agree that factories should stop producing the number of plastic straws. Think about all the harm that people are causing without even noticing. Can't you see that our wild/marine life is suffering because of our ignorant actions. How would you feel if you were a poor animal with no voice? Plastic straws take 500 years to break down into micro plastic.

Did you know 65,000 straws are thrown away each year? Plastic straws are usually found in public areas, but mostly at beaches. People are getting upset, confused and mad because of the amount of plastic straws that are being thrown away after one use.
What is happening to people's minds?, This is ridiculous, disgusting and gross. Why use plastic straws when we have a lot of other choices to choose from? Would you rather save our animals or leave them to die? You tell me. Straws can be a great use, but think about it? Losing an animal is like losing a loved one.

I feel so annoyed when I hear that plastic straws end up in our oceans, especially with our marine animals.
So think about the number of damages we are causing, because of the plastic straws that we use everyday. I as a proud New Zealander take my stand and fight on behalf of the animal welfare community! What can we do? How can we stop it? Now you tell me!

Kiwi Can

Today in Kiwi Can we were recapping back on our topic and theme resilience/Self control. Which means coping with challenges and bouncing back. Our focus was learning all about the different types of awareness's that get caught up in a distraction for example: If I'm at school and its learning time and the person setting next to me is either on social media or watching a video I might get distracted and end up in same situation as that person. We also learnt how we can control our distractions and focus on task + we also played a activity which involved distracting the people around us. To get started we did an energizer that is involves a Mexican wave + a another movement( This all relates to focusing, Listening and watching).

Persuasive Speech

LI: To Write a Speech that persuades others to think the way you do.

Why the media should stop showcasing violence on the news

Paragraph 1 – Fakalofa Lahi Atu, My name is Joel and I am writing this speech to tell others why the media should stop showcasing violence on the news. In my opinion this has a big affect on us as people which makes it even harder for all of us to move on with our lives. As was recently showcased on T.V this year  the Christchurch Terrorist attack has been a shocking moment for all those who have lost someone during the tragedy. As humans we have been given the freedom that we have always wanted , but when casting breaking news on T.V stops us from sharing the moment that we have in this world can cause a major impact on who we are.

Paragraph 2 –

Why is the news broadcasting these inappropriate and brutal videos and reports?
People are unnecessarily worried because of what they have seen & heard and to think about what has been shown people are reacting and are not thinking about what they should do before they made their actions appear.
This is a cautious environment because from my point of view  this sounds like a big misunderstanding. From the way they have intimidated others to follow them, This can cause a number of dangers to people's lives, for example it can lead to suicide, protests, schools being shut down and mostly online texting and showcasing.

Paragraph 3 – Are the media making the right decision
to cast these juvenile reports on live TV. Well there are many people out their who have
lost a friend, staff or family member , whether they have died from a serious cause.
These families do not want their hearts broken again because
of the tragedies that are taking place around the world.
Sometimes this can be a warning sign for families but it might
also cause stress and depression.

That's why I am giving this speech today to let the media know
that it's done an over because those who suffer from watching rudeness cannot keep
on listening to this nonsense and we as a people should ask this question too ourselves,
is it OK to feel upset because of this, No, we should fight back
but together we come as one.
We are not the people that are making these changes it is those
who are thought to believe that violence is the right thing to do. Well I'm about to make
that all change with this powerful speech I give today I hope you understand the reasons
why I have chosen this topical issue to convince the people of this world that we can't and we shouldn't let them keep on doing this.

For 3 weeks, in writing we have been producing speeches that talk or convince people about a persuasive topic. For this task I chose to write about why the media should stop showcasing violence on the news. I found this topic interesting because it talks about the changes that people are making and this is caused all through social media and + the news. The powerful words I used helped made my paragraphs more convincing. But the Main point of this part was to hook the reader in and make
people want to think like me. To make the readers want to think like me I also used language features such as, technical words, vocabulary, Organization. The part when i practiced my speech was that I have to be confident show eye contact to the audience and also communicating with other speakers.
The feedback that I would give to myself is- that I have confidence and pride in what I speak for.
The feedfoward-   is that I need to work on getting my tenses write so that my speech can be more informal.

Tech Blogpost

Today in Tech we filled out worksheets, these worksheets explained about the food dangers and safety + we learned a new word(Contamination) which means clean or dirty- another specific word that relates to Contamination is (cross) which means clean food or dirty food for e.g if I've got a lot of food steins on me or another example I have long nails and in between I have bacteria, this can make my food taste disgusting because I'm actually using my hands to prepare the food. The next pages explained a few examples that we noted as kitchen equipment and kitchen movement. The last task we did was to create a pizza using 1/2 of both which is savory and sweet.

Kiwi Can- blogpost

In Kiwi Can our focus is about showing emotions and showing resilience, To explain our facial expressions we did a role play about emotive ability. In this role play we got into groups of 4,5 and 6. Nidhi, Alice, Haylee and I worked collaboratively together to put together a role play showing the emotions that we will have at a playground. Our emotion was to be happy and to be excited. These actions promoted how we were feeling.
